Achievements this year:
A sack of bulbs have been planted by all of the Cragg Vale schools.
Community Balsam Bashing events - successfully completed in June and July.
This year we joined in the Spring Clean organised by Environmental Community Officer, Jason Boom, on a wet Saturday morning in March! One group collected 5 bags of rubbish and tyres between the church and the reservoir; a second group joined in with the church group to clean up Cragg Road from the bus terminus to Dauber Bridge. A third group collected 4 bin liners of rubbish from Turkey Lodge to bus turning circle.
Spa Sunday event revived (see review below)
Park Project:
The Park project continues to move forward but slowly due to other commitments from volunteers and the council. We have had several discussions re the equipment options, meeting high standards and looking at more imaginative ways of siting new equipment which all takes a considerable amount of consultation time. The surveys for the shelter and park project which were sent back to the council indicated on balance a new shelter was not a priority need and the money could be better spent else where, just as many people wanted new equipment as didn't want any changes overall there were very positive messages passed on via the survey which will be looked at during a CVCA meeting – thank you to all those who responded.
Cragg Vale Spa:
On the 2nd of May many of us got together to revive the Spaw Sunday custom by assembling at the spa to drink some of the water, cleanse ourselves of the winter ailments and celebrate the beginning of Spring.
The day started with a walk from the Church of St Johns in the Wilderness, alongside the river to the spa where Rev James Allison blessed the water and we all
enjoyed a good sing song.
The brave amongst us then tried the water to see if it really did have any effects before washing it down with a delicious cake or sandwich, prepared by the Robin Hood, courtesy of the Community Association.
Those who found the taste of the water just wouldn’t go away tackled a yard of ale in the Robin Hood. Congratulations to all those who took part and entertained us all.
It was a lovely community event and the weather was kind to us. We would like to thank Royd Regen, Hebden Royd Town Council, Leeds University and Calderdale Volunteers for all their support in refurbishing the Spa, the Mayor of Hebden Bridge for attending, and all who helped on the day! We look forward to next year!
